Obituary of Bernard M Christianson

Bernard Merle Christianson, 87, passed away October 27th, 2019 at North Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 8th, 1932 to the late Clifford and Gladys (Nelson) Christianson. He was baptized on October 30th, 1932 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Santiago, MN. He was confirmed on May 26th, 1946.

After graduation from Monticello High School in 1950, he worked at Holsom Bakery in Minneapolis. In February of 1952 he joined the U.S. Air Force. He then worked for Honeywell for the next 37 years. During that time at Honeywell he worked on the space program Apollo. He then was promoted to supervisor and continued in various supervision positions until retiring in 1993.

Bernard married Betty Carlson on July 2nd, 1960. They had four children. Anita Ann, Scott Bernard, Jay Merle, and Lee Howard. Bernard and Betty enjoyed traveling in their early and retirement age. They went camping when the kids were growing up and explored many U.S. states. When retired, they traveled to many countries around the world. Norway was their favorite travel destination.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty of 59 years. Sons: Scott (Lori) Christianson, Lee Christianson (Mona Schwier). Sister Marlene Truax and brother-in law Harold Truax, brother-in-law Allen Carlson and wife Audrey. Granddaughters: Heidi, Kayla, and Lydia. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death was his infant daughter Anita an infant son Jay. Father Clifford and mother Gladys (Nelson) Christianson. Brother Charles and sister-in law Fay Christianson. Father in law Alfred and mother in law Christine (Olson) Carlson. Brother in law Robert Carlson. Sisters-in law: Lorraine Carlson and Betty Marie Carlson.

A celebration of life will be held on November 3rd, 2019 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 413 3rd St East, Monticello, MN. 1:00 PM gathering, 2:00 PM memorial service. Meal to follow. Private burial will be held at a later date.
